It's your decision at the end of the day , many people will tell you they have had no problems with theirs at all and they are great cars , but others will say the opposite , I loved bits about mine but didn't like more so decided to sell up. The LSPI Issue is low speed pre ignition issue and there is a recall that will sort that out so don't worry about that If that's what's putting you off.
Thanks for your reply. That's the only thing that's putting me off and the main reason I'm getting rid of my current car (fiesta ecoboost, possibility of engine failure due to coolant loss after 30k miles). Now after reading this forum the excitement has gone and anxiety has returned

Make sure the service history is up to date and the oil used is dexos 1 generation 2. Yours may or may not require the engine ecu recall but check it has been done if required. Don't labour the engine in high gears and you are use to petrol direct fuel injection engines, so that is a good start.

I have had my elitenav 1.4T 150 nearly 2 years now and it's been a great car so far.
None of us have a crystal ball, but while the entire industry was caught out with LSPI on small turbo petrol engines, the combination of new oil and new ECU map is supposed to solve the issue.
I say test drive the car and once the engine is warm rev it fully and see how smooth it is across the rev range. Any gaps in power is a bad sign, no gaps should be fine

Also you have warranty, which you could extend for piece of mind.
There's usually some ironing issues with newer engine development.
I own a 1.6d. Very happy with it, no issues at all. Great mpg too.
I guess it doesn't help that my current car (first ever car), had so many varying issues with it, I feel paranoid about buying a vehicle!
I'm doing high motorway mileage (around 13k), what exactly do you mean by don't labour the engine? My current car sits around 3k rpm @ 70mph, there's a section filled with 50mph road works on my journey, in which the revs drop to just below 2k rpm.
Would I have to drop down in this instance, or would it crawl out without too much fuss? (Obviously not putting my foot all the way down).
I'm buying from a small local Vauxhall dealer (not franchised, and hold multiple customer service awards, etc), all of my girlfriends family have bought from them. but only new cars.

May i ask how much your paying I was after a 6 to 12 month old and eneded up paying 1k more for a new pre reg zero miles it was worth it to get rid of all the doubt...
To labour / lug the engine means to accelerate harshly in high gears and work the engine, so drop a gear or two and let the gearbox do more of the work, especially going up hills and overtaking. Lug is an american word if you ask me. Loads of clips on youtube about not to lug gdi engines, of all makes, even the Ford mustang.
Confirmed with the dealer today that the car has always had Dexos 1 Gen 2 oil in it (from new.. not sure how he knew that.. wasn't registered in the area). Also confirmed the car had the software update yesterday (advised it was optional?!).
I go on the motorway every day more or less and do 70 + in 6th gear and use cruise control, never had a problem. Just remember to drop a couple of gears if you accelerate hard. You will get used to it and the car will let you know if it isn't right
Mine is a june 2016 with 18000 miles on the clock and I have had it from new. It needed the engine ecu update and ran 8 months on dexos 2 oil before D1 G2 oil was available. Had its 2nd service 3 weeks ago and runs sweet. My advice to you is relax and enjoy your car and don't listen to every little engine noise. Used to do that myself and you get so so paranoid to the degree you don't enjoy it.
The 1.4T is a very quiet engine on tick over but like all petrol direct fuel injection engines, the mechanical fuel pump and injectors can be heard, with the driver's window open reflecting back off objects when accelerating hard,perfectly normal . Don't hear mine much now though
Mine is one of the early built, first registered in Jan 2016, had just over 9k on the clock when I brought it in June last year, it's now at nearly 16k and the engine is running sweet, never had any issues with the engine in fact, the cars only been in to the dealers a few times for software updates to cure issues with the lane assist, android auto and most recently the recall for the ecu update.
For the first 16 months of the cars life it was running with dexos 2, I had the oil changed to dexos 1 gen 2 a few months after I brought it.
In my opinion there's no big risk in buying a used 1.4T 150.

Assuming you don't slam the accelerator below 2000rpm when crawling in traffic (obviously not) then no.
Of course, the driver info screen graph which shows petrol used per 5km in a bar chart is depressing reading when you are sitting in traffic jams. But other than that....
