Momentary power loss

Had this happen twice now over the last 700 or so miles. When accelerating there is a momentary loss of power. This morning I also had a message pop up on screen at the same time but didn't get the chance to read it. Has anyone else had this? It's a bit worrying really, this could prove to be dangerous if it happened while pulling out to overtake on a motorway or dual carriageway

The power loss sounds a bit like the engine splutter that a lot of people have been describing. Perhaps take a look at that thread as the symptoms sound similar.

Hopefully you'll catch the error message next time it pops up

Okay it happened again on the way home, message was the reduced engine power. Only appears for a split second and then back on full power again. I'm just wondering if this is connected to the traction control. My mx5 does a similar thing to stop the back end stepping out.

Hi

I have experienced the same issue, for me when i press the accelerator mainly when on the motorway, the car loses power for a few seconds, warning lights appear then keeps going again without any issues.

My local Vauxhall dealer is stumped by the issue as there are no errors displayed within the onboard computer for diagnostics

I get this around once a week and it usually happens
- When the engine is cold
- When its raining heavily

Ive tried different fuel, but typically use BP as i have a company BP fuel card

I see it as an inconvenience not a safety issue

I have the 1.6CDTI 110PS ecoflex S/S model

You mentioned that this happened when it was raining heavily. Well, My last car was an Insignia CDTi and had a similar strange habit. I found that the air intake for the turbo is positioned right at the bottom, close to the road surface. When it rained heavily and I was driving through spray from other vehicles, the car would suddenly lose power, then pick up again after a few seconds. I think the water droplets were being sucked in, inhibiting the effectiveness of the turbo. I never had any problems when driving in the dry, so I can only put it down to rain.

Was it raining, with a lot of surface water/spray? If so, it is possibly the intake for the turbo, being positioned low down, close to the road surface, is sucking up water spray, which is inhibiting the effectiveness of the turbo. It should only be momentary and clear quickly.

My father-in-law has a 1.4 turbo and his would lose power briefly and show service engine soon and reduced engine power on the display. I drove this with a scan tool attached and read out this DTC ECM P06DE 00 (39) Engine Oil Pressure Control Solenoid Stuck On. Has anyone seen this trouble code or what would cause this fault?

Hello,

I have some problems with momentary power loss. Especially it happening when RPM achieves 2500 and more... Astra doesn't work properly, it's impossible to go faster. To achieve more than 3500 RPM on idle also impossible. When I connect OPCOM I see something like in images. The computer doesn't show any errors.

These pictures was taken when accelerator was pressed in maximum position but computer shows strange parameters.

The throttle position are also strange.

I'm having the same issue. This tends to happen when in 5/6th gear and going below 2k revs. As soon as I accelerate to just over 2k revs I get a message saying engine power reduced. I kept my foot down this time as it's the 2nd time it's happened, I then got another 2 messages, 1st one says service transmission and the 2nd saying service due soon even though not due until July 18. Cars gone back to Vauxhall today, they have called and they can see there is a problem and the only way to sort this is to strip the gear box and take the clutch out. Explained a disclaimer to me.. if the clutch/gearbox is contaminated or a fault they will fixed under warranty without no charge to me however if there is burning or wear found on the clutch I will be liable for this at approx 350 just for labour of doing this. I explained I've had the car 3 months, bought it when it had 8k on the clock, now has 13k so should be an issue with my driving. Just got to wait and see what they say but I doubt this is going to have a happy ending. I wouldn't ignore this issue and get it back to the dealer asap as this will not go away

I have a similar issue with my Astra 1.6cdti ecoflex nav. I generally cruise on motorways at 68mph where revs sit at around 1700 in 6th gear gas the revs shoot up, back off, shoot up, back off until I get over 2000revs
or a shift down to 5th sitting at 2000 boosts to 2500, backs down, boosts to 2600, backs down and then steadies out. This is with gas to the floor.

This has been on going for a while now, getting all of the work under warranty. They've changed the boost valve and a compression sensor (can't exactly remember the name). I just had the car in on Friday 12th, they were able to take a snap shot of the defect and send it to technical.

I received a phone call last night saying technical said due to a certain message the gearbox would need to be removed and inspected, there's an issue with the clutch, but warranty doesn't cover the clutch and I would have to pay if they don't find anything.

How does the clutch have anything to do with accelerating in the same gear, I don't rest my foot it and gear changes are sound. I bought the car Mar 17 12,000miles, now on 35000, I do a lot of driving.

Any suggestions? I'd prefer not to dismantle the gearbox...

having the same problem, Turbo Diesel 136 elite, been in once for a fix, 500 miles later I have the same problem. Basically any hard acceleration results in ' temporary loss of power ' and says ' reduce clutch usage ' needless to say overtaking a tractor or slow moving vehicle is a bit of a lottery, still under warranty so going back in on Monday
